The First Ferrograph? |
|
![]() |
Is
this the very "First Ferrograph"?
Not the normally expected Wearite deck. My own view is perhaps it was an original prototype, before the advent of the first Wright & Weaire "Model A". But I could be wrong. If anyone has any further information on this model I would be very interested to hear from them. |
| Ferrograph Model "D" an early domestic machine. | |
The deck is the early Wearite Model "A". Picture/s by kind permission of Mrs. Hilda Lane |
The polished wooden cabinet was a common
feature of recorders in the late
40's early 50's. But proves that Ferrograph once had an eye on appearance, as this model is obviously destined for the home
environment.
Similar in style to the G100/200 machines designed for industrial, and military use. The protective flap was to guard the control panel and meter from accidental damage. These early decks had no tape counter, guides or pause control. This design of record level meter was used in machines up to and including the Series 2. This early machine only accepted up to 7 inch diameter spools. giving 1250 feet of tape, and a recording/play time per reel of one hour at 7.5 i.p.s.
For more details on this deck go to Wearite. |
